Championship Leagues

The Seahawks and Mermaides championship leagues have been created to offer our local talent a pathway to playing basketball at a higher level whilst also providing an opportunity for those players who may simply enjoy playing basketball under a FIBA styled format.

The championship league is an invitational league, played on court one at the ARC, split over four quarters of 8 minutes each. The championship leagues operate under the same rules as the country basketball league, which include the timer stopping on all umpires whistles and time outs, normal shot clock rules apply and additional over time minutes are played in the event of a draw, with an MC and DJ for each game.

The championship league teams are selected via a closed draft system, with each coach selecting their own teams.

Each player from the championship winning team, wins a championship ring. The championship winning coach, wins a championship ring and cap.

Our U18 Seahawks and Mermaides leagues are designed to ensure a pathway for our junior players to play at a higher level. The Seahawks and Mermaides Big V and CBL coaches are involved in coaching in the league with a uniformed approach to ensure the development of our top talent, whilst also developing potential future representative and domestic players. The U18 championship league is a great way for all junior players to improve and play under a format that is more professional than the current domestic competition.

How do I get an invitation to the U18 Championship league? Scouting can occur during the domestic summer season as well as the junior under 16 and 18 squad seasons. All players who have played in the previous U18 championship league will also receive an automatic invitation unless there have been disciplinary issues in the previous season.

How do I get an invitation to the U23 Championship League? Scouting can occur during the Senior Domestic winter season as well as the U18 Championship league. All players who have played in the previous U23 championship league will also receive an automatic invitation unless there have been disciplinary issues in the previous season.

How do I get an invitation to the Open championship league? Scouting can occur during the Senior Domestic Summer or winter season as well as any of the junior Championship league seaons. All players who have played in the previous open championship league will also receive an automatic invitation unless there have been disciplinary issues in the previous season.

The current U18 SCL champions are the Tikis coached by  Oliver Bidmade.

The current U23 SCL champions are the Warriors coached by Jonno Carroll.
